SDSU study confirms existence of third-hand smoke

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A new study by researchers at San Diego State University confirms there is such a thing as third-hand smoke.

The term is used to describe residue left behind by smokers in places like apartments or cars.

Researchers at SDSU found that even after smokers move out of an apartment, third-hand smoke lingers. What's more, cleaning won't do much to get rid of it.

It's unclear what the health effects of the residue may be.
