EL CAJON (CNS) - An East County woman was taken into custody for questioning Monday after she allegedly admitted to fatally shooting her adult son in their home, authorities reported.

Josephine Mary Ring, 66, called 911 shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday to report the gunshot death in the 2200 block of Tina Street in unincorporated El Cajon, sheriff's homicide Lt. Dennis Brugos said.

Deputies found Ring's son, 48-year-old Vincent Bonfiglio, lying on the floor of the residence, where he lived with his mother and stepfather. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The circumstance of the shooting, including whether it may have been accidental, were not immediately clear, the lieutenant said.

As of early this evening, Ring had not been booked on any charge, a jail clerk said.
