Mutilated puppies Sunny and Cher find permanent homes

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Sunny and Cher have permanent homes.

The lab-mix puppies, found separately with their ears sliced off and believed to have been from the same litter, were adopted by families chosen from more than 100 applicants, according to the county Department of Animal Services.

Sunny was discovered on Nov. 19 in Mission Valley, while Cher was brought to San Diego on Dec. 7 after receiving veterinary care in Tijuana.

The motivation for slicing off the dogs' ears was unclear, but Animal Services officials believe it could have been for dog-fighting purposes - to prevent other canines from latching onto the ears in any future dog fight, or to make the puppies grow up resembling pit bulls.
