Shocking sex assaults caught on camera

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (CBS 8) - Police are searching for the attackers in a series of sexual assaults against helpless victims.

Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators say the twisted acts were uncovered after an anonymous person dropped off DVDs copied from a computer hard drive. The videos feature a group of men sexually assaulting at least 10 severely disabled women.

"We have up to 10 suspects. We're only able to identify or clearly get images of about four of the suspects," Sgt. Dan Scott said.

Authorities say the footage was shot at several unknown locations, including one that appears to be a residential care facility.

"Some of it appears to be security camera footage from a still camera mounted in a room. Some of it appears to be handheld, and it appears that an accomplice, one of the suspects, is holding it for the other," Sgt. Scott said.

The suspects, who range in age from 20 to 40, may also be care facility residents.

Detectives say it appears there was no consent given by the female victims, who are believed to be between 20 and 40, and in many cases, who were unable to even respond at all.

"Some of the victims were assaulted by multiple suspects in the images, so these aren't cases that have no connection," Sgt. Scott said.

Investigators are hoping someone will come forward with key information that will bring those responsible for the brutal attacks to justice.

"Anything that would help identify the location, the victims, the suspects that can help us solve this case," Sgt. Scott said.

Investigators are also hoping the person who dropped off the material at sheriff's headquarters in Monterey Park will contact them.

If you think you recognize the facility or the suspects, you are urged to call Crime Stoppers or the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
