CLAIREMONT (CNS) - A Clairemont resident who had heard about a deadly hit-and-run crash near his home spotted a car with front-end damage, called police, and led officers to their suspect Saturday.

A man was crossing Balboa Avenue near Mount Alifan Drive shortly before 7 p.m. when he was hit and killed. The victim was a man in his 20s, whose name has been withheld.

A resident at an apartment complex on 6779 Beadnell Way viewed a news report about the fatality, and called police to report a vehicle that appeared to have suspicious damage on it that matched the broadcast description, San Diego Police Officer Frank Cali said.

Officers found the car in the apartment complex and arrested 20-year-old Hamza Eweedah, the brother of the registered owner of the car, according to police. Eweedah was charged with a felony hit-and-run.

A second vehicle, a Honda Accord, also struck the man, but its driver stopped and waited for police and was apparently not cited.
