Cement truck crashes into Lakeside house

Posted: Updated:

LAKESIDE (CNS) - An out-of-control cement-mixer truck careened backward down a steeply sloping road in an East County neighborhood Thursday and plowed into the garage of a home, extensively damaging the structure and several motorcycles inside it but causing no injuries.

The driver was heading up Lila Hill Lane in Lakeside about 7:30 a.m. when the truck began sliding backward, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Moments later, the vehicle smashed -- back end first -- into the garage, which a resident uses to house a motorcycle repair and customizing shop.

The driver said he was slowing to stop just before the cement mixer began sliding down the hill, apparently skidding across the asphalt on tires locked in place by the vehicle's brakes, CHP public affairs Officer Brian Pennings said.

The truck's cement bin was about half full at the time of the crash, Pennings said.
