SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Qualcomm and Scripps Health made the list of "Top 100 Companies to Work for 2011" in Fortune magazine, it was announced Thursday.

Qualcomm, with 12,520 employees who develop cell phone chip sets, ranked 33rd on the list. The magazine noted that the company hired a New York chef to oversee its cafes, which feature fresh food from local farmers.

Scripps Health, with 11,847 workers, was 37th. Fortune cited the firm's investment of $30 million in training and employee-development programs last year.

"We are proud of the care we provide our community and of the national reputation we have earned as a health care leader," said Chris Van Gorder, president and CEO of Scripps. "This accomplishment is a result thousands of people, moving in the same direction, with the same values and dedication of purpose."

The top firm was software developer SAS, based in Cary, N.C.

The list will appear in the Feb. 7 issue of Fortune, and can be viewed online.
