Cardiff hits the century mark

Posted: Updated:

CARDIFF (CBS 8) - Cardiff's centennial year celebration is off to a roaring start, although many of the locals begin their days slightly glazed.

VG's Donuts, with its old school pastry case, has been a Cardiff tradition since 1968, offering an oven-fresh baked beginning to beach-beckoning day.

"It's beautiful. We're lucky. I live very close and I'm here every day," one resident said.

"It's a wonderful environment -- great surf, good people, you couldn't ask for more," another resident said.

Despite its languid lifestyle, Cardiff is a Mecca of motion. At the campgrounds, the tides' gravitational pull is strong.

What everyone who spends a day, or even a century here is doing is enjoying the charms of one of Southern California's most charismatic communities, where sun, sand and surf have kept Cardiff on a roll.
