SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pistol-toting man who appeared to be in his 60s robbed a Kearny Mesa bank Tuesday.

The thief approached a teller at the Torrey Pines Bank branch office in the 9200 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, displayed a chrome or silver handgun and demanded cash shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

He fled with an undisclosed amount of money to the west in a full-sized tan Chevrolet pickup truck with an extended cab, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.

Witnesses described him as a roughly 5-foot-5-inch, clean-shaven man with "sandy" blond hair and two missing upper front teeth, the lieutenant said. He was wearing a baggy gray sweat shirt and a tan hat.

Despite his apparent age, investigators do not believe he is the so-called "Geezer Bandit," an elderly-looking man considered responsible for 13 bank heists in California, all but three of which occurred in San Diego County.
