Claire's: The toast of Cedros

SOLANA BEACH (CBS 8) - When it comes to creative cuisine in a cozy setting, cafes don't come any more comfy than Claire's on Cedros.

"We wanted to create a space that felt like home and also where the cooking felt like home," Claire Allison said.

Claire's is the perfect fit for the neighborhood, located across from the train station about a block north of Lomas Santa Fe.

"We're on the wrong end of Cedros, the north end of Cedros. Oftem times the first time they find us they go by us a couple of times because it looks like a house," Claire said.

Once you find it, you'll never forget it. Whether it's just for a morning cup, or for their fresh-baked goodies.

"We have a full team of bakers and they work seven days a week," Claire said.

Or for one of their breakfasts, like Tuscan Benedict or enchiladas and eggs, or Claire's award-winning pumpkin pancakes with pecans.

"We won best pancakes in San Diego and we've only been open for 17 months, so that's quite a thrill," Claire said.

The pumpkin pancakes are quite a thrill too, served with honey-cinnamon butter and real maple syrup.

A word of warning: Claire's on Cedros can get crowded on weekends.

"We serve 600 to 700 people on a given weekend day," Claire said.

And they are only open for breakfast and lunch for their ever-expanding family.

"We wanted this to feel like home," Claire said.

Home never tasted so good.
