Couple reunited with lost honeymoon photos on 1st anniversary

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - If you're married and you honeymooned in Hawaii like many couples do, this story will blow your mind.

A San Diego couple shot hundreds of pictures on their honeymoon, then lost their camera. But one year later, they were reunited with their precious pictures.

When you're honeymooning in paradise, you take a lot of pictures. If you're Serge and Diana Apresov, that meant 807 of them.

"The honeymoon was great, with the exception of losing all of those pictures," Serge said.

After seven days of sunset walks and romance, their bubble burst, because when they got home and unpacked they realized their camera was missing.

"I was upset, but I was trying not to think about it because I thought we were not going to get the camera back," Diana said.

Serge and Diana flew home on Hawaiian Airlines. It turns out they lost their camera on the plane, where supervisor Mike Battles found it.

"I turned it on and noticed there were hundreds of pictures in it and they were honeymoon pictures, so I knew it was very important pictures," Mike said.

Mike found the camera at 1 a.m., and because lost and found was closed, he decided to bend the rules and take the camera home, making it his personal mission to somehow find the owners.

"I wanted to find the owner, I mean it kind of felt okay because I was not really breaking the rules if I found the owner and I did tell Hawaiian the next day I found the camera," he said.

Serge said he called both Hawaiian Airlines and the airport numerous times and left message after message, but the camera and all of those memories got lost in the shuffle until a year lager, when Mike's wife Nastaram Battles spotted Diana at the mall.

"I said, 'I know you, I know you, please don't leave, I know you!' and she was like 'OK, alright,'" Nastaram said.

"My first reaction was she probably doesn't, maybe she thinks I'm somebody else," Diana said.

A few questions later, the connection was made, and two days later the camera was returned on Serge and Diana's first anniversary.

"It's a miracle. They are the reason I believe good people exist, and I guess I believe in miracles," Serge said.

Serge says Diana never yelled at him once for losing the camera. Both Diana and Nastaram say they don't shop at Victoria's Secret often, but they're glad they did last Thursday.
