SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public today to be on the lookout for a convicted child molester who failed to register as a sex offender after moving to the San Diego area.

Christopher Earl Dustrude, 25, left Las Vegas en route for Carlsbad last week and has been at large since, according to San Diego County Crime Stoppers.

Dustrude pleaded guilty in 2004 to sexually assaulting two family members, a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, in Montana. Then 17, he was placed on probation and ordered to register as a sex offender, Deputy Cascade County Attorney Kory Larsen said.

Last year, Dustrude was re-arrested after failing to notify authorities that he had moved, Larsen said. While waiting sentencing for the offense, he left Montana for Nevada, where social welfare workers put him on a bus headed for San Diego County.

Dustrude, who is the subject of a federal arrest warrant, is a 6-foot-3-inch, roughly 250-pound white man with brown hair, hazel eyes, a scar on his back and another on his hand.

Investigators consider him a dangerous sexual predator, according to Crime Stoppers. Anyone spotting Dustrude should call at the nonprofit agency's anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
