ESCONDIDO, Calif. (AP) — An Escondido police detective won't face criminal charges for accidentally killing a police informant.
The San Diego County district attorney's office says the detective acted in self-defense in firing at a car containing 27-year-old Jennifer Lynn Favreau of Escondido.
The San Diego Union-Tribune says results of the DA's investigation were released Friday.
Favreau had tipped police that her boyfriend had stolen a car. She was in the car when police tried to arrest Christopher Ramirez in October 2009. The DA's report says Ramirez hit a patrol car and then sped toward police, causing a detective to fire. Only Favreau was hit.
Ramirez was arrested after ramming another car. He got 10 years after pleading guilty to assault with a deadly weapon.
Favreau's family has sued the city for $50 million.
