Groundbreaking held for improvement project in Mount Hope

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Groundbreaking was held Monday for an improvement project in Mount Hope that will result in two landscaped medians along Market Street, the major thoroughfare through the neighborhood.

The $459,000 project, paid for with federal stimulus funds, also includes 20 new street lights on adjacent roadways.

The neighborhood is located south of state Route 94, between the Interstate 805 and Interstate 15.

"We want to be a place where people drive to, not just through," said Nancy Lytle, vice president of the Southeastern Development Corp.

The medians will slow traffic in the area and help drivers recognize they're in a pedestrian-oriented area, Lytle said.

The project is expected to take six months to complete.

Tony Young, the city councilman for the area, said the improvements will be good for residents and could attract new businesses.
