SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 15-year-old boy was under arrest Wednesday for allegedly stabbing his father when he intervened in a fight the teen was having with his brother in Tierrasanta, police said.

The stabbing in the 10,000 block of Truett Lane was reported at 4:37 p.m. Tuesday, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The father was stabbed three times in one of his sides but none of the wounds was life-threatening, Delimitros said.

The boy also sustained a cut to one of his sides during the fight, but it was not considered serious, according to the officer, who said that the boy was brought to Rady Children's Hospital for treatment before being taken to Juvenile Hall.

TIERRSANTA (CBS 8) -  A 15-year-old boy and his father were both hospitalized after the son allegedly stabbed his dad.

The San Diego Police Department is handling the case, and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is involved as well. Neighbors tell CBS 8 the boy's mother is in the Navy.

Police say it happened at the family's home in military housing in Tierrasanta shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday. Officers responded to a report of a 15-year-old boy stabbing his father in the stomach and chest multiple times. Sgt. Teresa Clark told CBS 8, "We got here and a father and son were in a struggle... knives were involved and there were injuries."

Neighbors on Truett Lane watched as paramedics arrived at the scene.

"I saw an older man come out and they put him in the ambulance and I saw the younger guy come out and they had him in handcuffs. I saw blood on his arm when they were cleaning him up and wrapping him up. He looked like he had a scratch on his face and they cut his shirt off," said neighbor Whittany Ricketts.

Police say the boy was apparently injured while the father was trying to gain control.

Police say the mother and the 15-year-old boy's twin brother were also in the home when the fight broke out. "We're still trying to find out exactly who did what," said Sgt. Clark. She said it appears to have been a family struggle over a disagreement that got out of hand.

Neighbor Diana Noschang told CBS 8 the military housing community is typically quiet and peaceful. She said, "I live right here. I didn't hear anything," adding, "They're good people. They're good kids. Our kids are always outside... never any trouble at all."

Police investigators wouldn't say what the father and son were arguing about and say information is limited since the suspect is a juvenile.
