Worker suffers serious injuries in Mission Valley accident

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A worker weighing an estimated 500 pounds suffered serious leg injuries Thursday when he fell out of the truck he was driving at a Mission Valley construction-materials yard and was run over by the vehicle, authorities said.

The industrial accident at Mission Valley Rock, Asphalt and Ready Mix, 5745 Mission Center Road, was reported shortly after 9 a.m., according to police and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

It took personnel from several engine companies to get the injured 45-year-old man into an ambulance, SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque said.

Medics took him to a trauma center for treatment of compound fractures to both legs, according to police information officer Gary Hassen.

State occupational safety personnel were called in to investigate the accident, Hassen said.
