SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A worker weighing an estimated 500 pounds suffered serious leg injuries Thursday when he fell out of the truck he was driving at a Mission Valley construction-materials yard and was run over by the vehicle, authorities said.
The industrial accident at Mission Valley Rock, Asphalt and Ready Mix, 5745 Mission Center Road, was reported shortly after 9 a.m., according to police and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
It took personnel from several engine companies to get the injured 45-year-old man into an ambulance, SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque said.
Medics took him to a trauma center for treatment of compound fractures to both legs, according to police information officer Gary Hassen.
State occupational safety personnel were called in to investigate the accident, Hassen said.
The California Highway Patrol reported an increase in arrests for suspected drunk driving in San Diego County as its Memorial Day holiday enforcement period continued Sunday. CHP officers arrested 57 people for drunken driving violations in the county from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday, an officer said.
