Valentine's rhymes

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - With Valentine's Day on Monday, Larry Himmel finds himself in his usual location -- the dog house. Today he gave us a little romance advice in verse.

When it comes to affairs of the heart

It's not always a pretty sight

What may be all wrong tomorrow

Seems so right tonight.

The pathway to true romance

Can be a slippery road.

You meet a charming prince

And wake up with a toad.

Yet we must believe in love

It's really all we need.

Someone to share our heart

In every word and deed.

So comes the day each year

We let our feelings show

With a token of affection

In hopes that love will grow.

First, you get a lovely card

With verse so flowery.

Filled with words so stilted

They'd never come out of thee.

But finding the perfect gift

Isn't always lots of fun.

Candies filled with calories

And roses cost a ton.

Some guys just have a knack

To pick out the right token.

To reignite the flames of love

And keep the home fires stokin'.

When it comes to gifts of love

I guess that I'm just a slouch.

Instead of affairs amore.

I end of up on the couch.

I won't repeat the mistakes

Of Valentine's gifts past.

Like a couple of years ago

When i bought my wife a flask.

At the risk of sounding like

An unromantic creepo

Last year I bought her

A gift card from Home Depot.

Here's to all of you truth seekers

Who believe love's the only thing.

And have the guts to go for

All the happiness it will bring.

One day, my wife kissed a prince

Who turned into a frog.

So I'll spend another Valentine's night

Curled up with the dog.
