Simple little wedding creates one big new family

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Love is in the air this Valentine's Day, and while many people are tying the knot, not everyone is entering into wedded bliss and instantly becoming a new family with seven kids.

Traditionally Valentine's Day is one of the most popular days to get married at the County Administration Building, but it's a non-traditional story that caught our eye on this day of love. Don Hill and Blanca Silva's union is creating a new, big family after love literally came knocking on their door.

"The minute he opened the door it was the way he was dressed, the way he carried himself, I was like, mhmmm," Blanca said.

Three years ago, Don Hill started renting an apartment from Blanca Silva in Imperial Beach, but their landlord-tenant relationship grew into a fast friendship and before long they both realized they'd found their perfect match.

"I figured you can't get any more romantic than Valentine's Day so we decided a few weeks ago to hey, let's get married on Valentines Day," Don said.

Their simple little wedding is creating one new big family by blending Blanca's three sons Christian, Adrian and Erick with Don's four sons Don Jr., Christian, Cory and Connor. All seven were excited about their parents' union, but did voice one small concern.

"It's gonna be crowded, especially crowded. Big time," one of the children said.

While Don and Blanca admit their family affair is a little less traditional than most, they hope their union passes down a message of love, honor and commitment.

"Understand you're going to have your ups and downs. When you get married the ceremony is beautiful and you think the world is your oyster but when you go home, you're gonna go home and deal with issues, so just stay committed to one another," Don said.

The happy couple says they're celebrating Monday night with a special family dinner, and are still trying to iron out a honeymoon -- and more importantly, a babysitter.
