Cooler weather and precipitation on the way

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - There was a 20 percent chance of storm showers in San Diego County Tuesday due to a large cold trough of low pressure moving into the region from the Gulf of Alaska, forecasters said.

The expected pattern change will bring much cooler weather with more significant periods of precipitation and gusty winds for Wednesday into next weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency expects rainfall totals from around a half-inch at the coast to up to 2 inches on coastal mountain slopes, and a quarter-inch or less in the deserts. Snow levels were expected to lower to 4,000-4,500 feet by Thursday morning, bringing 4-8 inches of snowfall above 5,500 feet, with a foot or more on the highest peaks.
