PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Gregg Zaun is glad to be at spring training once again, this time with the San Diego Padres and competing for a job as their backup catcher.
The 39-year-old Zaun had season-ending surgery last June after playing 28 games for Milwaukee.
Zaun wasn't originally sure he wanted to go through all the rehabilitation he needed to play again. But when the Padres called and invited him to camp as a non-roster player, he accepted.
Zaun said Wednesday that he thinks the Padres have playoff potential, and that's why he decided to give it another try.
