SAN DIEGO (CNS/ CBS 8) - A man who led police on a chase through central San Diego to a Mission Valley apartment complex surrendered Thursday night.

The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Daniel Alvaraz. Gang investigators tried to pull him over for speeding on the Northbound I-15 just south of the I-8. But the suspect drove off when officers got out of the car.

The suspect pulled into an underground garage at La Mirage Apartments in the 6500 block of Ambrosia Drive where Alvaraz is a resident. The suspect left his 2001 Honda in the garage and took off on foot, prompting a search of the grounds, authorities reported.

Officers fanned out through the complex and evacuated some units while looking for the man. An officer spotted a blood trail that lead to an apartment above Alvaraz's- it's unclear how he cut himself.

Police say when they threatened to send a K-9 officer into the apartment to take down Alvaraz, he surrendered peacefully.
