DESCANSO (CNS) - The bodies of two apparent illegal immigrants who may have died from exposure were found in a rural area of Descanso Tuesday.
Acting on a tip about 7:15 a.m., sheriff's deputies and border patrol agents found the body of a Hispanic man in his 20s, bundled up in the woods about a mile east of Highway 79 and north of Barrett Lake, where overnight temperatures were around 29 degrees, said Lt. Dave Brown of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
He was believed to have been part of a group of illegal immigrants who crossed the border sometime this weekend and became separated, said sheriff's Homicide Lt. Dennis Brugos.
Some of the immigrants were transported to San Diego and others were left behind in Descanso's woods.
Information about the illegal border crossers came from a man in the group who was transported to a hospital due to an undisclosed condition, Brugos said.
Brugos said the man identified the body of a woman found in the same area as his wife, but the whereabouts of the others were unknown.
