LAKESIDE (CNS) - The two-mile El Monte Park Trail and 1.5-acre staging area in Lakeside were dedicated in a ceremony Tuesday.

The trail runs between El Monte Valley and Blossom Valley, along the base of rocky El Capitan Mountain.

"For a long time, the community has wanted safe, official access to beautiful El Monte Valley," said Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who represents East County on the Board of Supervisors. "Whether you ride a bike or a horse, walk or jog, you'll enjoy this new path."

Future trails along the San Diego River Valley will connect to it.

The staging area includes parking for cars and horse trailers.

The project was paid for by a $375,000 state grant from Proposition 40, passed by voters in 2002 to support neighborhood parks.
