Silver Bay Kennel Club Dog Show: North County canines

Posted: Updated:

DEL MAR (CBS 8) - Over 1,900 of the most prized hounds around are in town this weekend, strutting their stuff at the Silver Bay Kennel Club Dog Show.

"We are the oldest kennel club in San Diego and we usually draw the largest entries of AKC licensed dogs," Jan Hill said.

Over 170 different breeds will vie for best in show.

"The dog that just kind of stands out and says 'Look at me, I'm the best one here,'" Jan said.

Just before the dogs enter the ring, there's some last-minute fluffing. Under the watchful eye of the judge, handlers and show dogs take a few laps around the ring.

When it comes to showing a champion, there's great attention to detail.

"That little extra makes the edge," a dog owner said.

The Silver Bay Kennel Club Dog Show runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. Parking is $9 and that includes all the licks you can get.

In 2006, the city of San Diego began allowing political campaigns to electronically file their financial reports, giving the public easy access to information on money in city politics. The county of San Diego wasn’t as quick to make the same kind of information available and continues to lag behind the city’s efforts.
