SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - A city employee recently named San Diego's "streets czar" pleaded not guilty Monday to a felony charge of committing a lewd act on a child under 14 seven years ago.

Mario Sierra, 47, was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of committing a lewd act with a minor under the age of 14.

According to reports, the victim was 10 years old when the incident happened. At Monday's court hearing, a prosecutor said Sierra allegedly placed the girl's hand on his genitals in 2004.

Sierra was free on a $100,000 bond. He was ordered to return to court April for a readiness conference and May 2 for a preliminary hearing.

Sierra faces up to eight years in prison if convicted. He has been placed on unpaid leave.
