RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Shawn Lee, a defensive tackle on the San Diego Chargers' only Super Bowl team, has died. He was 44.
Yolanda Chappell of Chappell's Funeral Home in Garner confirmed Lee's death, but wouldn't disclose how he died. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Lee died Saturday in Raleigh of cardiac arrest brought on by double pneumonia. The newspaper also said Lee had been fighting diabetes.
Lee had 39 tackles and 6½ sacks in 1994, when the Chargers won their only AFC title but lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
Lee played college ball at North Alabama and was drafted in the sixth round by Tampa Bay in 1988.
The team says a funeral will be held Saturday at Springfield Baptist Church in Raleigh.
