SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego police say officers shot and killed a 26-year-old man who emerged from under blankets with a kitchen knife in his aunt's home.

Homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney says the man was declared dead at thescene Saturday after two officers fired and hit him.

Four officers had been sent to the home Saturday morning after a woman called saying her nephew was threatening to stab her.

The officers entered a bedroom when the man refused to come out and found him on a bed, covered in blankets.

Rooney says the man turned back the covers to reveal a large kitchen knife, lunged at the police offers, who then proceeded to shoot and kill the man.

Rooney says the man was declared dead at the scene.

Police say the officers who fired were a 32-year veteran and a 16-year veteran. No names were released.
