PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — The San Diego Padres hope center fielder Cameron Maybin can return to the lineup Monday after missing five games with concussion-like symptoms.
Maybin took live batting practice Sunday after a second straight day of improvement. It was the second time Maybin has swung a bat since he hit his head on a post on the outfield fence during a pregame workout Wednesday.
He experienced blurry vision and headaches for 72 hours after hitting his head and the Padres have held him out as a precaution.
Maybin also took 50-60 swings in the batting cage Saturday.
He hit .234 with eight homers and 28 RBIs in 82 games with the Florida Marlins last season. The Padres acquired him in a November trade that sent relievers Ryan Webb and Edward Mujica to Florida.
