SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two sailors killed when a seven-ton military water-hauling truck crashed and overturned during a training operation at Camp Pendleton were identified by the Navy Wednesday.

Petty Officer Third Class Daniel Shirar, of Baytown, Texas, died Monday when the water truck overturned.

The 22-year-old was an equipment operator with Amphibious Construction Battalion One, Reserve Detachment 107, based in Houston, Texas.

Constructionman Mychael A. Flint, of Fort Ann, New York, also died in the crash.

The 21-year-old was an equipment operator with the same battalion, and was based in Coronado.

The accident occurred about 8 a.m. as the crew of the vehicle was taking part in a joint Navy and Marine Corps exercise, said Cmdr. Greg Hicks, spokesman for the U.S. Third Fleet in San Diego.

The sailor who suffered non-fatal injuries was airlifted to a hospital, Hicks said.
