WASHINGTON (AP) — The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan is forecasting that U.S. troop withdrawals from Afghanistan beginning in July will include combat forces as well as support troops.

In testimony before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday, Army Gen. David Petraeus was asked about his planned recommendation to President Barack Obama on troop reductions this summer.

Petraeus said he is still formulating his recommendation but believes that "some" combat forces will be included. It is widely expected that a large share -- if not the majority -- of those initial withdrawals will be support forces such as logistics specialists who helped in last year's U.S. troop buildup.

Petraeus did not say how many troops are likely to be pulled out in July, nor has Obama prescribed a specific number.
