SAN MARCOS, Calif. (AP) — A 12-year-old boy who pulled on a pair of socks to ease cold feet suddenly got to thinking about the homeless — and socklessness.

Parker Ward set up a nonprofit called "Parker's Pairs" and he papered his San Diego County neighborhood with fliers and mounted a website campaign to gather 500 pairs of socks for the homeless.

The San Marcos boy reached his goal, and then some.

On Tuesday he delivered more than 1,000 pairs to Interfaith Community Services in Escondido, and he's delivering another 1,000 pairs to the Salvation Army.

Parker tells the North County Times that he began worrying about the homeless one day when his feet got cold.
