SD County man gets 6 years for raping teen

Posted: Updated:

VISTA, Calif. (AP) — A San Diego County man who raped a 15-year-old relative and was tracked down by a GPS ankle bracelet has been sentenced to six years in prison.

The San Diego Union-Tribune says Wenceslao Mendez was sentenced Tuesday in a Vista courtroom. He pleaded guilty to rape last year.

Prosecutors say the Mexican citizen was living in Escondido when he attacked the girl at a home in July of last year. Mendez is a relative of the girl's stepmother.

Mendez was arrested the next day at his home. Investigators tracked him through a GPS monitor that Mendez was wearing because of a pending immigration hearing.
