Aztecs fan discovers he has the golden ticket

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - One San Diego sports fan is sitting pretty. He has a golden ticket to watch the Aztecs take on UConn in Anaheim Thursday.

On Thursday, Tom Wellman will get to watch San Diego State take on UConn at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

"I haven't been able to go to any of the games because they've been sold out all year, so this is really amazing," Tom said.

The stars really aligned for Tom, who says he had always planned to attend a few of the tournament games, so he bought tickets in Jan. 2010 during an online presale. But Tom never imagined his hometown team would make it to the Sweet 16, and that he would get to witness history.

"I'm only sitting about five rows from the floor behind the basket and this is like hitting the lottery," he said.

And while Tom fields jealous comments from the Facebook crowd, he is optimistic about the Aztecs advancing to the Final Four.

"Ah yes, the UConn Huskies, they have an illustrious history. I'm hoping the flight to Anaheim takes it out of them a little bit," he said.

Tom bought his tickets for a mere $93 a piece, but on websites like StubHub, they are now going for up to three times the base value. So the question is, would Tom sell the passes if the price was right?

"There may be a little grain of sand in that brain of mine, but no, I can't pass it up. I just can't, they are priceless," he said.
