Deputies arrest another major North County tagger

VISTA (CNS) - A young man accused of thousands of dollars in graffiti damage was arrested Wednesday - the third arrest of a prolific tagging suspect in North County in the last two weeks.

Sheriff's deputies took 19-year-old Alfonso Castro Jr. into custody at his Vista home shortly after 8 a.m., Deputy Paul Michalke said.

During a search of the residence, investigators seized more than 100 pieces of evidence allegedly linking the youth to a tagging spree that required roughly $34,700 worth of cleanup costs across Vista.

"Castro is also suspected of graffiti vandalism in the cities of Oceanside and San Marcos," Michalke said.

The teen was booked into Vista Jail on suspicion of 80 counts of felony vandalism.

On March 15, probationer Luis Enrique Maganda, 18, was arrested at his parents' Oceanside home on suspicion of tagging scores of commercial and residential properties in Vista, wreaking more than $15,000 in property damage.

A week earlier, sheriff's investigators jailed another North County man on numerous tagging charges. Oscar Fernandez, 26, was taken into custody at the Oceanside home-improvement store where he was employed.

Deputies searched Fernandez's Foothill Drive home and seized dozens of items of evidence that allegedly implicate him in numerous acts of graffiti, sheriff's Sgt. Joe Mata said.

Fernandez also was on probation when he was arrested the morning of March 8.
