Family homeless after 57-foot yacht catches fire in Coronado marina

CORONADO CAYS (CBS 8) - Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire onboard a yacht that left a couple and their son homeless.

A 57-foot craft caught on fire shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday in a marina outside of the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in Coronado. The boat's owner, Harry Williams, said he smelled an electrical burning and quickly evacuated his wife and son. All three had been living on board.

Flames quickly erupted, destroying Williams' craft and spreading to an adjoining boat. A third vessel was threatened, but did not catch fire.

Dozens of firefighters worked to douse the flames, and remained on the scene through early Friday morning to make sure no flare-ups occurred.

Firefighters are still trying to pinpoint the exact cause of the fire.
