CARLSBAD (CNS) - A documented gang member suspected of fatally stabbing a 27-year-old man as he was leaving a North County bar last week was captured Tuesday at a Midwest bus station.

Juan Rocha, 20, was arrested at a Greyhound depot in Indianapolis about 2:30 a.m. in connection with the slaying of Devin Allen of Oceanside, according to police.

Rocha allegedly attacked Allen near the intersection of Harding Street and Carol Place in Carlsbad shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Mickey Williams said.

Allen, who was knifed while walking to his car, was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he was pronounced dead about an hour after the assault.

Detectives identified Rocha, who alternated between homes in Carlsbad and Oceanside, as the alleged killer based on witness statements and clues at the scene of the slaying, Williams said. The sergeant declined to disclose the nature of that evidence.

Police have identified no motive for the homicide. Several people saw the stabbing occur but heard no argument or challenging statements beforehand, according to Williams.

"We're still trying to figure out the why," he said.

Rocha was booked into jail in Indianapolis on suspicion of murder and a gang allegation. He was being held on $5 million bail pending extradition back to San Diego County.
