OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A 21-year-old Marine was killed early Sunday morning when he was hit by a car at a freeway interchange outside Camp Pendleton.
The Marine was with a fellow Marine crossing the northbound entrance ramp to Interstate 5 at Harbor Drive, near the post's main entrance, at 12:35 a.m.
The man was struck by a 2009 Nissan Altima, according to the county Medical Examiner's office. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by California Highway Patrol officers.
The CHP could not say today if the driver was cited, or if the other Marine was injured.
The Medical Examiner's Office said the victim's name will be released when his family has been notified.
