Clear skies to return to San Diego for second half of weekend

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Parts of San Diego County saw thunderstorms and snow flurries Saturday, but clear skies will return Sunday.

Showers continued throughout Saturday afternoon and temperatures were about 10 to 20 degrees below normal, according to the National Weather Service.

Mount Laguna was still getting snow flurries and had about six inches of snow on the ground at midday, according to Tom McWay, of the Laguna Mountain Lodge. The snow was starting to melt off roads and sidewalks, he said.

The snow showers made travel difficult due to limited visibility and icy roads.

Snow flurries will continue through early Saturday afternoon for areas above the 2,500 foot elevation.

Coastal San Diego will have rain showers and thunderstorms throughout Saturday night but can expect clear skies on Sunday, according to the NWS.

Beachgoers should be advised of dangerous swimming conditions and high rip tide potential, said the NWS, and should use caution at all times and swim near a lifeguard.

Chula Vista reported .71 inches of rain in the past 24 hours and Rancho Bernardo had .61 inches. San Diego's Lindbergh Field received .25 inches, according to NWS data.
