A first look at Miramar National Cemetery

Local veterans and their families are getting a first look at the new Miramar National Cemetery.

(CBS 8) - Local veterans and their families are getting a first look at the new Miramar National Cemetery.

The 168 acre cemetery was dedicated in January 2010. In-ground cremation burials began in November.

Beginning next Friday, Miramar National Cemetery will have in-ground casketed burials - a service that has not been done locally since 1966 because space ran out at the Rosecrans National Cemetery. Families had to go to Riverside National Cemetery for a casketed burial.

Since 1966, only cremation burials in columbarium walls have been offered.
