ENCINITAS (CNS) - Authorities asked the public Monday for help in identifying a motorist who fled the scene of a collision that killed a bicyclist on a North County street over the weekend.
James Swarzman, 47, of Encino was riding with two companions on North Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas when a pickup truck hit him from behind near Jason Street about 1 a.m. Sunday, sheriff's traffic Deputy Yvan Rogers said. Swarzman died at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla several hours later.
Investigators believe the dark-colored vehicle that struck Swarzman is a 2007 to 2009-model Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500. The impact damaged its passenger-side headlight area, according to Rogers.
Anyone with information that could help detectives find the hit-and-run driver is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at (858) 565-5200.
