SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A convicted sex offender who was locked up for the death of a San Diego State University student will reportedly be released from prison Friday.

John Burgess, 41, said he met 19-year-old Donna Jou online. Jou went missing in 2007. Jou's mother Nili Jou is outraged.

"He's a sex offender, three times offended. What happened to justice? He's going to do this to someone else. Another family is going to go through what we went through," she said.

Burgess told authorities Donna died after using drugs at his home. He says he panicked and dumped her body in the ocean. Her body was never found.

He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to five years in prison. He'll get out after serving less than a year.

Jou's father says he was notified of the early release.
