SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public for help in finding a documented gang member wanted in connection with a spree of nearly two dozen auto burglaries at the San Diego Zoo.

Norberto Pineda Cedano, 24, is the primary suspect in the 23 vehicle thefts in parking areas at the Balboa Park tourist attraction, police said.

Chevrolet and GMC vehicles have been targeted, with some type of key or similar device used to gain entry. In many cases, credit cards were stolen from the victims' autos and used to purchase gift cards at stores around the county, according to investigators.

The burglaries have occurred over the past several months, mostly on Fridays and weekends.

Cedano is a 6-foot-2-inch, roughly 250-pound Latino with black hair and brown eyes. He should be considered potentially armed and dangerous, police said.

Anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or e-mail the nonprofit agency at sdcrimestoppers.com.

Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
