SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Zoo's prize panda mom is ready to flirt with the male panda who has sired four cubs.

Zoo keepers say they closed the panda exhibit Friday to provide privacy so the bears, which are usually kept apart, could get reacquainted.

Pandas have difficulty breeding and females are in heat for only three days per year.

Senior Research Technician Suzanne Hall writes in the zoo's blog, Bai Yun (beye yoon) began to "chirp" at Gao Gao (gow gow) through a gate this week, then swatted at him because she wasn't in heat yet.

When she let her mate nibble at her and raised her tail on Friday, keepers opened the gate and let the pair get more intimate.

They mated once and might breed again in the next few days.
