It's hot, then it's not: Weather, make up your mind!

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Let's face it, San Diegans are weather wimps, and when the elements push us out of our flip flops and shorts, our mood tends to be anything but sunny.

"I can't go out, I can't get a tan, I can't play with my dog. It's just awful," a San Diegan said.

On Sunday, it was 80 degrees at the beach, but fast forward just two days and you'll be trading in that bikini for an umbrella. Just last week, kids were sledding in the snow, videotaping hail and having their hair whipped by the wind, only to turn around and slather on sunscreen at the beach, sport short sleeves and sunglasses.

"My beautiful wife said 'I thought it was supposed to be sunny in San Diego', and I just shook my head and said, I don't know," a visitor said.

But no sooner did we crank up the AC and grab our beach bags, and we're back to bundling up in beanies, rain boots, and reaching for the closest Snuggie. It's a flip-flopping forecast that hardly seems fair. After all, San Diego is known for some of the best weather in the country.

So does Mother Nature need a refresher course? Ivory Small with the National Weather Service explains the crazy cool-downs and hot hiccups we've been seeing.

"What happens is the storms are trying to come down from the north still, but we've also got high pressure trying to build in from the south, so there's a big fight in between them on what type of weather to give Southern California," Snow said.

So with no clear idea on when America's Finest will get back to being "Sun Diego", it sounds like the tricky weather is going to keep us all juggling ice cream and hot chocolate a little bit longer.
