Royal memories fit for a queen

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A San Diego woman has spent more than 50 years collecting everything royal, from China to cookie tins to magazines.

British-born Rhona Gorder doesn't live in England anymore, but that doesn't mean England isn't living in her San Diego home.

In fact, Rhona has a hard time not buying every royal reminder she sees. On Thursday, Rhona will take her daughter Helen and granddaughter Bethany back to England for the Royal Wedding. They've been giggling about it for months -- a three-generation trip to watch William and Kate tie the knot.

"I know that it meant a lot to me growing up to keep that link with my family in England and my cultural heritage, and I want Bethany to have that same experience," Rhona said.

But there's a catch. If the wedding is anything similar to Diana and Charles's big day, the trip may have to sleep in the streets for a good seat at the procession.

"Well, I've always wanted a good view. Whenever I go I want to see a good view," Rhona said.

And what does 12-year-old Bethany think about going homeless for her heritage?

"It's possible," she said.

The plan is to stand along the mall, watch the procession go by and then make a mad dash to Buckingham Palace.

"So when the parade goes by us we can be one of those people that you see on the news reel -- a million people running in front of Buckingham Palace," Rhona said.

Memories fit for a queen of their home away from home.

Their 10-day trip starts with a 10-hour flight on Thursday from L.A. to London.
