LA MESA (CBS 8) - La Mesa police say a 45-year-old man on parole beat his mother and stabbed her dog late Saturday night at the Villa de Fanta Townhomes on University Avenue.
That man is now in custody, but neighbors say they can't believe it and when they saw Scott Pierson hanging out in front of his mom's La Mesa Townhome Saturday night they thought he was on drugs.
"He was acting pretty weird, walking around, talking to bushes and animals that run around here. And he was scaring animals and stuff," said Brian a neighbor.
About two hours later, police were at the Villa de Fanta complex and Pierson was in handcuffs.
Police say Pierson beat his 67-year-old mom. She suffered major injuries to her head and face, which police call potentially life threatening. Authorities say Pierson also stabbed his mom's dog several times.
Samantha Harmon's husband found the little Pomeranian, who is now at a local animal hospital, in bad shape.
"Kind of like crouched over, next to that flower pot where the sprinkler is right there. The dog was all wet, poor puppy," explained Samantha Harmon, another neighbor.
Neighbors say they didn't hear a fight, but police filled them in.
"The argument was about over the stereo being on and things that shouldn't have happened," said Sam Denim a neighbor. "It's just really upsetting."
Samantha says Scott just moved in a few days ago. The victim told her they were in the process of finding him a new place to live. Samantha says her neighbor has always been kind and generous.
"She always drops off clothes for our daughter, very friendly, very nice," added Samantha.
Scott Pierson is now being held in the downtown jail. The 47-year-old is charged with attempted murder, elder abuse and cruelty to animals. He's being held without bail.
