OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A pedestrian who was squatting on railroad tracks and covering his ears was struck and killed by a Coaster train in Oceanside, deputies said Sunday.
The incident happened at 10:14 p.m. Saturday on the coastal-line tracks at Surfrider Way, just north of the Oceanside Pier, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.
The man was squatting on the tracks with his back facing the oncoming northbound Coaster train, witnesses told officers. The man was covering his ears, as if to block out the sound.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriffs said. His name was not released.
