JULIAN (CNS) - An East County hiker who had to be hoisted up 130 feet to a hovering sheriff's helicopter was recuperating Monday from a 30-foot fall that caused a broken ankle and rib injuries, authorities said.

The rescue helicopter crew was called to the base of Mildred Falls - a popular hiking destination in the Julian area - about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Cpl. Tony Webber.

The hiker, who was wedged between rocks at the base of the falls, was flown to the top of Mildred Falls, where paramedics took over care, Webber said.
