SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A reward up to $1,000 was announced Tuesday for information leading to the arrests of three thugs who attacked a transient in a North Park alley, made him drink dishwashing liquid and beat him unconscious.

The attackers, all believed to be in their 20s, confronted a 49-year-old man in the access road off the 3900 block of Kansas Street about 4 a.m. Saturday, San Diego police said.

After forcing the homeless man to drink dishwashing liquid, the group pummeled the man, then walked off to the east toward 30th Street, according to witnesses, who were unable to provide detailed descriptions of the attackers.

The victim is hospitalized but unresponsive, police said.

Anyone with more information about the assault is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477, or e-mail the agency at Tipsters may remain anonymous.
