SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man released earlier this month in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist taking a late-night ride with several friends near Leucadia State Beach was re-arrested and will be charged Wednesday, a district attorney's spokesman said.

Joseph Ricardo Fernandez, 46, came forward on April 11 to report that he believed he might have been involved in the accident the previous night that killed 47-year-old James Swarzman.

Swarzman, of Encino, was struck from behind about 1 a.m. in the 1200 block of North Coast Highway 101. The driver did not stop, and Swarzman died several hours later at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

Detectives inspected Fernandez's Dodge Ram 1500, which matched descriptions -- including front-end damage -- of the northbound vehicle that struck Swarzman, and took him into custody, sheriff's Sgt. Mark O'Connor said.

No charges were filed at that time, and Fernandez was released April 14. He was re-arrested Monday and is being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment Wednesday at the Vista Courthouse.
